Lincoln Middle School is located in the beautiful suburban community of Hawthorne in northern New Jersey. We are home to nearly 600 students in grades six through eight with seventy full- and part-time teaching and service staff members. Our mission is to provide an environment that accommodates the uniqueness of the adolescent child and then strives to address his or her educational, emotional, social and physical needs through a strong and varied instructional program and activities. This aim is supported and assisted by an active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Organization. I encourage every parent and staff member to join this very important organization.
Our instructional program is organized by subject area departments. Instructional staff members in the various departments provide instruction on one or more grade levels. In addition to our advanced math and science programs in grades seven and eight, each grade level is also supported by instructors from special education and basic skills instruction. Students, who are identified for basic skills remediation in either Math and/or the Language Arts participate in our in class support, extended year, and supplemental educational services program. Students who have not met district or state established standards of proficiency in reading, math, and/or English are provided with instruction, using various programs that address the areas in need of improvement. The focus of the program is to improve the students' skills in both reading comprehension and mathematics.
Students are encouraged to do their best in all subject areas of the curriculum. Furthermore, students are encouraged to seek extra help from any teacher in any subject they are experiencing difficulty. Parents are encouraged to work closely with their child's guidance counselor to help monitor the academic progress of their child. Also, we ask our parents to please encourage their child to participate in the various programs, activities, and dances planned for the student body throughout the year.
